Spring is upon us but if you are not getting enough good quality sleep, you may not be out of the woods as far as catching a cold is concerned. Researchers, led by Sheldon Cohen of Carnegie Mellon, recently published the results of their findings in the Archives of Internal Medicine demonstrating that subjects who slept less than 7 hours per night were almost 3X more at risk of developing a cold than their counterparts who slept 8 hours. Sleep Efficiency, however, is an important factor. Sleep Efficiency is the time asleep over the time in bed and a measure of how well you are sleeping within a reasonable amount of time. The higher your sleep efficiency, the better rested you will be. And, as an added bonus, you may just be able to vanquish the common cold!
